Chart 6

The Stairway Chart

This chart deals with the syllable tion from the French sion and ous.

It provides a novel way of introducing the large number of English words which contain the suffix tion.

remedial english spelling

Use of the Donkey Chart enables recognition of preceding syllables such as in action and distribution and the reading of the words up the stairway is accomplished with ease, as is the subsequent spelling of them.

The suffix sion is presented in the same way.

For some the difference in the sound of the s in sion and the t in tion may be difficult to perceive, necessitating extra help to clear away the problem.

See The Manual for full details of the proper use of this chart.
